18 Sep What can you do against spider veins?
Finely branched, reddish-blue shimmering veins, especially on the thighs or in the hollows of the knees - many women are familiar with spider veins. They are an aesthetic problem because they detract from the appearance of beautiful legs when they become visible under a skirt or dress, for example. Certain tips and tricks can help to minimise the enlarged veins. Our laser therapy promises long-term improvement and removal. Find out more in this article.
How do spider veins develop?
Spider veins can have various causes.
They usually form due to a hereditary predisposition or sex hormones. In addition, age, weight, the regular consumption of Nicotine in combination with a lack of exercise often contribute to their development. They are generally harmless, but can also be a sign of incipient venous insufficiency. They then develop when the veins work less efficiently. As the vascular walls become overstretched, the veins can gradually lose their elasticity. This leads to blood congestion and small bulges, the familiar hair-thin, dark and reddish veins, which spread out in a net or fan shape under the surface of the skin. This is often accompanied by tired or heavy legs with an imprint of the sock cuffs in the evening.
In this case, the exact extent of the venous insufficiency should be clarified by a phlebologist. Ultrasound measurements can be used to determine whether the veins under the spider veins have a normally functioning valve closure. If the valves, which prevent the blood from flowing back into the feet, are not working properly, real varicose veins can develop in this area over time. In this case, spider veins are considered a harbinger.
If the examination of the veins is without findings, the spider veins do not need to be treated.

Tips against spider veins
If you want to take action against spider veins and alleviate their appearance, there is one golden rule: try to prevent the blood congestion that widens the veins!
And it works like this:
Sufficient exercise
Sitting and standing activities increase the pressure on the veins. For this reason, it is important to get up every now and then and walk a few steps to keep the blood circulation going. Foot exercises are also a good option. A simple exercise is to pull your toes in and then stretch them out again. Then place your feet on tiptoe and lower them again. When the day's work is done, we recommend that you exercise. Sports such as swimming, jogging or cycling help to reduce spider veins.
Sitting correctly
It happens automatically when sitting: Without thinking, we cross our legs. What looks elegant is not good for the small blood vessels in the legs. Make sure you change your sitting position more often.
Put your legs up
To relieve the pressure on your veins, you should elevate your legs as often as possible. This works well during the night, for example, if you elevate your legs with a pillow.
Wear compression stockings
The special stockings narrow the diameter of the leg veins and accelerate the return flow of blood to the heart. The venous valve system is supported in this way and further spider veins are prevented. Incidentally, trendy and fashionable compression stockings are now available in all kinds of colours without the "granny look".
Pouring with cold water
Showering your legs with cold water increases blood circulation, which is good for the veins.
Massages
Spider veins can also be prevented with regular massages. They stimulate blood circulation.
Spider vein treatment with laser
As tempting as it may sound, the tips mentioned above will not completely remove spider veins. However, they do help to slow down the progression or counteract further development.
Medical help is needed to get rid of the veins reliably and permanently. The Laser treatment with IPL technology highlighted.
Here, pulses of high-energy light are emitted, which obliterate the spider veins by heating them. As the light is used in different wavelengths, spider veins of different shapes can be treated and removed gently on the skin and tissue.
